Second Edition of North East Olympic Games in Meghalaya

The 2nd edition of North East Olympic Games-2022 (NEOG) has been finalized to be conducted in Shillong during October 30 to November 6 next.

Meghalaya State Olympics Association (MSOA)-cum-organizing secretary of the event Finely L Pariat, in a letter to Assam, Arunachal, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim State Olympics Associations, has recommended 16 sports disciplines as consented by the central Govt. for the 2nd edition NEOG.

The disciplines are: Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cycling, Football, Golf, Judo, Karate, Shooting, Swimming, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Tennis and Wushu.

It may be mentioned here that Meghalaya was chosen to host 2nd edition of NEOG as announced by Meghalaya State Olympics Association (MSOA) working president John F Kharshiing.

As part of the 50th anniversary of Meghalaya’s statehood, the state Govt headed by Conrad K Sangma, also MSOA chief patron, has agreed to support hosting the NEOG in Shillong, Kharshiing said. The North East Olympic Association had also expressed willingness for Meghalaya to hold the games in view of the golden jubilee celebrations.

Meghalaya has to make the most of holding the event on their own turf. Meghalaya in first edition of NEOG in 2018 had finished sixth in the medals table.
